YES Execom Meeting and MAME YE Network Mid-Term Meeting, 14-16 April Print E-mail
Dear members, Dear friends
 
The first EXECOM meeting of YES in 2011 is taking place in Athens, from April 14th to April 16th 2011 titled "Turning the global crisis to an opportunity for United Europe: Competitiveness through entrepreneurship".
 
It also is the first EXECOM after the adoption of the YES Agenda 2010 - 2015, stating promotion of access-to-capital and access-to-market for young entrepreneurs in Europe as the key priorities of the Confederation.
 
The EXECOM is structured in three parts:
 
Day-1: Access to capital, including a workshop on early stage investments and a match-making event between startup entrepreneurs and seed capital investors
 
Day-2: Access to market, including a workshop by Entreprise Europe Network on the materialization of the Single European Market for enterprises and a B2B Match-Making event
 
Also, the EXECOM conference, addressing the issue of "Turning the global crisis to an opportunity for United Europe: Competitiveness through entrepreneurship" and the MAME YE Mid-Term Meeting will take place on Day-2
 
Day-3: Entrepreneurial education and the concept of 'Symbolic Capital' as a core competitive advantage of European enterprises.
 
A guided tour to the monuments of Ancient Athens will also take place on Day-3.
 
Last, but certainly not least, all of the three days the EXECOM participants will have the chance to enjoy the famous Greek gastronomy.

"Mobilising SMEs for the Future of Europe", 24-25 May, Budapest Print E-mail
Budapest, Hungary, 24-24 May - YES Director Chiara de Caro participated in the Conference "Mobilising SMEs for the Future of Europe" organized by European Commission DG Entreprise and hosted by the Hungarian Presidency of the EU. 

Main focus of the conference were the local and regional solutions to the key challenges facing SMEs and the exchanges of best practices in the implementation of the Small Business Act (SBA) for Europe in the Member States. 

Along with the main programme several workshop took place on promoting the entrepreneurial spirit, improving the business environment, investing in skills, taking advantage of the Single Market and accessing markets beyond the EU. 

During the event also the 5th edition of European Entreprise Awards took place. The EEA rewards the most innovative initiatives to promote entrepreneurship and small business by public authorities at national, regional and local level. 
 
YES Supported European Youth Week 2011 Print E-mail
The European Youth Week took place from May 15-21. Hundreds of events, involving political debate, youth work and voluntary activities, were organized all over Europe across 33 countries.

The flashpoint of this cultural, political and social exchange was a central series of high-level events in Brussels and Antwerp, bringing together 200 young Europeans to help shape the future of the EU through workshops and debates based on the week’s focus, Structured Dialogue.

Major political figures including President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, Androulla Vassiliou, the Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, and László Andor, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, attended debates with young people in Brussels and Antwerp, the designated European Youth Capital 2011.

YES Director Chiara de Caro attended the Youth on the Move strategy event, a debate with President José Manuel Barroso and Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou on the quality of higher education, the promotion of learning mobility, and how to help young people to develop their employability and entrepreneurship skills. Discussed were also the latest Eurobarometer results on youth which revealed that half of young people in Europe are keen to work abroad in another European country, but lack of cash discourages many of them from taking a first step towards this.

Aegean Young Businessmen Association visiting YES Print E-mail
Brussels, Belgium, 20 May 2011 - A delegation from EGIAD, Aegean Young Businessmen Association,  visited the YES office in Brussels today. EGIAD President, Mr. Temel Aycan SEN and EGIAD Secretary General Prof. D. Mustafa TANYERI together with 15 young entrepreneurs met with YES Director Chiara de Caro to discuss future cooperation between the two associations. 

EGIAD is a non-governmental organization founded in 1991 by 47 young businessmen, displaying leadership and exerting influence in Izmir and Aegean Region. With its 513 members, EGIAD contributes a great deal to the Turkish economy in general and more specifically to that of the Aegean Region on the basis of industrial production, servicing sectors, foreign trade and employment. EGIAD carries out along with its mission public activities like research and inquiries besides more specific activities tailored for its members. 


 
YES participates in the 1st edition of “Festival d’Europa” Print E-mail
Brussels, Belgium, 3 May 2011, YES - European Confederation of Young Entrepreneurs is glad to be partner of the 1st edition of “Festival d’Europa” that will take place in Florence on 6-10 May 2011.

“Festival d’Europa”, organized by the European University Institute, has the objective of turning the city of Florence into a creative and communication laboratory for the dissemination of knowledge of Europe, of its policies, its achievements and the opportunities it provides for citizens.

The highlight of the event is the “Conference on the State of the Union”, where debates at the highest level are foreseen regarding the progress made on the road to European integration since the Treaty of Lisbon.

Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament, José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, the Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Franco Frattini, the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism, Sport, Media and Youth Androulla Vassilou and other personalities will take part in the Conference, to be held in Palazzo Vecchio on May 9th and 10th. Dimitris Tsigos, YES President, will also be a speaker at the Conference in a session dedicated to Growth, Employment, Financial Stability after the Crisis.

Along with the institutional aspect of the Festival d’Europa, there is the cultural one. For the whole duration of the event, Florence will turn blue, the official colour of the EU. Piazza Europa, Notte Blu, Europe through cinema and the Competition on the future of Europe are some of the most captivating appointments in the Festival calendar and will liven up the city streets, places, cultural centres, theatres and museums. In this framework Chiara de Caro, YES Director, will speak at a parallel event dedicated to “Infrastructures and Network for Europe”.
